Reliance to elevate Jamnagar refinery capacity
Reliance Industries is planning to upgrade the capacity of its Jamnagar refinery from 27 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 40 mtpa This was disclosed by the State Head (Karnataka) of Reliance Petro Marketing Pvt Ltd, M J Mathews, while inaugurating Reliance petrol bunk at Kulur near Mangalore recently. He said, "The present rated capacity of the refinery is 27 mtpa, which has been increased to 34 mtpa after removing bottlenecks in its operations." However, neither did he mention about the probable time frame for capacity expansion nor the related investments in the proposed expansion project.

Reliance is reportedly mobilising manpower for this purpose. It may be mentioned here that the Jamnagar facility became operational in 33 months after the contract for the construction of the petrochemical complex was awarded. Around 4,500 engineers & managers and nearly 80,000 laborers were involved in its construction. With that experience in hand, it may not be impossible for the company to increase its capacity to 40 mtpa.
