Maruti Suzuki A-star, India`s most fuel efficient car, has proved its supremacy once again by achieving a spectacular top mileage of 39.48 kilometers per litre (kmpl) in a recent fuel efficiency rally in Mumbai.
The winning contestant achieved 37.6 kmpl mileage in his A-star in a similar mileage rally at Chennai.
In a fuel efficiency test conducted by ARAI earlier, India`s premier automotive research agency, A-star delivered a record mileage of 19.6 kilometers per litre of petrol. This is the best in class ARAI certified fuel efficiency, among cars in India.
In the A-star mileage rally in Mumbai, the top 25 participants achieved an average mileage of over 26.72 kmpl while in Chennai this figure was as high as 32.5 kmpl.
The average mileage achieved by all participants was over 29 kmpl in both these cities. The cars were driven on a predetermined route of approx 60 Kms by the participants on Sunday. There were 51 participants in Mumbai and 45 in Chennai. Before the start of the event, they were given fuel saving tips to get maximum mileage.
Most participants felt that their A-star cars give excellent mileage and drivability and attributed the same to its lightweight power plant and excellent design.
The new-generation three-cylinder, light-weight aluminium K10B engine is a major initiative undertaken by the company towards offering latest technology to its customers. Maruti Suzuki engineers have put together a host of innovative technologies to enhance performance, minimise friction and provide high acceleration.
The state-of-the-art, light weight, 998cc K10B petrol engine offers power of 67ps @ 6200 rpm and torque of 90nm @ 3500 rpm. The flat torque curve comes in handy while negotiating the stop-go city traffic conditions with ease. The A-star is the first car from Maruti Suzuki to be fitted with the new KB Series engine.
The K10B engine on the A-star is cautiously designed to meet the current and forthcoming environment norms in India as well as in the advanced markets of the Western world. In India, the engine conforms to the present BS-III emission norms. The K10B engine is an outcome of over three years of design and development in collaboration with Suzuki Motor Corporation.
