Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has introduced a special 15-coach holiday train, which will take tourists on a package trip for the Amarnath pilgrimage.
This package will include sightseeing in Jammu and Kashmir, accommodation and local transport. This scheme is taken after receiving a good response to the low-budget `Bharat Darshan` trains. The special 15-coach train will start from Pune and will pick up passengers from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh before heading for Jammu and Kashmir and will charge about Rs 14,700 per couple for air-conditioned travel.
Bela Meena, Additional General Manager (IRCTC) stated, "For the first time on this train we will have an air-conditioned coach and it will be starting from Pune. Also during the `Bharat Darshan` travellers had to live in shared accommodations or dharamshalas but in this case the railways will make arrangements for hotels or tents."
She added that if the response for the train is good then they could consider providing at least one more train prior to August. Apart from better accommodations commuters will also be able to avail of luxury buses to transport them to locations, tour escorts and security on the train.
