India`s leading Two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto has registered a 8.13% fall in motorcycle sales in the month of May 2009 to stand at 165,049 units as against 179,649 units as against May 2008.
During the month, total two-wheeler sales stood at 165,697, an 8.42% decrease over the same month last year. The company had sold 180,935 units of two-wheelers in the same period a year ago.
The total vehicle sales of company stood at 185,341 units last month compared to 201,511 units in the same period a year ago, down by 8.02%. The exports also dropped by 2.55% at 58,682 units in May from 60,215 units a year ago.
The company has said that the domestic motorcycle sales continued to rise for the fourth consecutive month since the launch of the XCD 135 in February, 2009, and the XCD sold about 20,000 units in the month of May.
The company further added that stagnant commercial vehicle sales continue to reflect subdued economic conditions. Exports have almost normalized after the dip in January-March 2009 and are expected to gradually exhibit positive year-on-year growth.
