Sachin Tendulkar has scored his 42nd test century today, which has helped India to take a 241-run first innings lead at tea on the third day of the first test against New Zealand in Hamilton.
India was bowled out for a total of 520 in reply to New Zealand`s first innings of 279. Tendulkar was dismissed for 160, one of five Indian wickets to fall in the session, as the Kiwis built a healthy first innings lead with a solid batting display from their powerful lineup.
Opening bowler Zaheer Khan performed a quick-fire 51 not out, from 46 deliveries, smashing eight boundaries in the process to ensure his side passed 500 runs.
Sachin and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had resumed after the break with a 105-run lead, and seeking to bat the hosts out of the match.
Dhoni, who combined in 116-run partnership with Tendulkar, had survived a chance earlier in the over when Jesse Ryder appeared to pull off a brilliant diving catch in the gully.
Tendulkar, who brought up his 150 shortly before Dhoni was dismissed, did not last much longer when O`Brien had him playing at a short ball outside off stump and he was caught by Ross Taylor at first slip for 160.
