Ahmedabad: The 33rd edition of the Saptak music festival - which brings together India's classical icons as well as the country's most promising musicians - will begin on January 1, 2013. The venue of the festival will be Amrut Mody School of Management. Saptak's duration, from the New Year's day to January 13, is consistent with the festival's long tradition.
Saptak-33 will be an elegy for Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar, the sitar colossus who passed away on December 11. Saptak festival was inaugurated in 1980 with the blessings of panditji, who was one of the founder trustees.
The current edition of Saptak, comprising 15 sessions, will feature the veritable pantheon of Hindustani music. The musicians' list includes Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Shubha Mudgal, Gundecha Brothers, and Begum Parveen Sultana.
