Hungary keen to sign Bilateral Air Services Agreement with India

In a bid to enhance economic ties, as well as boost tourism between India and Hungary, the Central European nation is keen to sign a Bilateral Air Services Agreement and is expected to do so shortly in order to improve direct air connectivity between Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and India. A high level Hungarian delegation led by Dr Janos Hovari, Deputy State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hungary visited India late last month and held a series of meetings with Indian officials.

Janos Terenyi, Hungarian Ambassador to India said, "An air agreement between India and Hungary is in the making and is expected to be signed in a couple of months. We have a very strong interest to promote direct air connectivity, and we are working on it." He specifically indicated that they are serious about direct air connectivity between Budapest and either New Delhi or Mumbai.

When asked about Indian visitations to Hungary last year, the Ambassador said that the Hungarian Embassy had issued about 4,000 visas to Indians last year, but the number could be more as Schengen Visa holders are entitled to visit Hungary.
