Bangalore: Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who gave a silver lining to Indian shooting seven years back at the Athens Olympics, revisited his glory days on Sunday by equalling the world record to win gold in the double trap event at the first Asian Shotgun Shooting Championships in Kuala Lumpur.
With the championship offering no berths to the London Olympics, the "dream score" of 148 will give all the Army officer immense confidence as he attempts to win a quota place at the Asian Shooting championship scheduled in Doha in January.
Rathore's effort equalled Russian Vitaly Fokeev's mark set at the World Cup held in Concepcion, Chile in March. Earlier, Ronjan Sodhi, who has already won a quota place for London, equalled the world and Asian record in the qualification round with a score of 147.
Rathore missed just two shots in the preliminary round (50, 48, 50). He then shot a 46 in the title round for a final score of 194/200. In the team event, Rathore (148), Yoginder Pal (133) and Mohammed Asab (131) bagged the bronze medal for India.
