Chennai: Former world No 1 ace Leander Paes partnering Serb Janko Tipsarevic for the first time, sailed into the doubles quarter finals of the ATP Tour 2012 Aircel Chennai Open tennis championships here today.
The duo, aiming for the title, to kick off the new season on a bright note, got the better of the Canadian duo of V Pospisil and Milos Raonic in three hard fought sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. The second seeded SIndo-Serbian pair were fresher, playing their first match while both Pospisil and Raonic came off their singles matches, especially the latter who downed romanian Victor Hanesou three hours before on the centre court. The first set saw Leander breaking Pospisil in the seventh game and Raonic in the ninth game after the game score was 3-3. However, the Canadian duo hit back in the second set when at 3-3, Pospisil broke Leander in seventh game, they led 4-3 and held serve. In the tie break third set Leander and Tipsarevic broke away after 4-2 and 7-5 lead, to wrap up the match in an hour and 16 minutes.
