Mobile handset maker Nokia has entered into a partnership with wireless operator Vodafone India Ltd. Nokia recently released its Windows OS based phone Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710 and now Vodafone has started selling the two Windows-based handsets in more than 50 shops in eight cities since 26 December, 2011.
Though the Nokia Lumia 800 won positive reviews, it failed to generate consumer interest. According to a survey by Exane BNP Paribas, only 2 per cent people in the European market said that they will pick up the Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone. Also, since the launch of the Lumia phones, the market shares of Nokia have fallen over 20 per cent, as the investors decided it will not be able to penetrate a market dominated by Apple and Google.
After this partnership, it is not yet clear if Nokia will be able to at least climb a few steps up the ladder in the competitive smartphone market.
