Nokia is not leaving any stone unturned to gain its lost ground in both high-end and low-end phone markets in India. After the glittering launch of Nokia Lumia phones, the company has introduced three models, including two devices from the Asha category. These new offings from Nokia target competition in the middle and lower level segments.
All the three models launched by the company in India yesterday come with DRM-free (digital rights management) music service that gives consumers an access to 40 lakh legal digital soundtracks. Users also get easy-to-swap secondary SIM slot that allows them to manage multiple SIM cards.
It is worth mentioning here that Nokia had introduced dual-SIM phones last year. Nokia was way too behind than the homegrown companies in this regard. According to a Business Line report, Viral Oza, director (marketing) of Nokia India, "These models are set to revolutionise and democratise legal music consumption in India." All the new phones in Nokia's S40 series would have both the in-built browser and the music window.
The company also rolled out its first Asha series phone in India. Nokia Asha 200 is now available for purchase in India. The Asha series was unveiled with much fanfare at a global event in London in October. Nokia Asha 200 and Asha 300 run on Symbian S40 operating software and are an important part of Nokia's strategy in India and African countries.
Asha 200 is Nokia's first QWERTY dual-SIM device. The device offers one-click access to e-mail and chat via Nokia Messaging and other social networking services like Facebook. The other specs of the phone include 2 megapixel cameras with 4X zoom, and enhanced stereo FM radio. Asha 300 features both a touchscreen and keypad. It supports 3G and has a 5 megapixel camera for taking photographs, which can be organised and edited in the Nokia gallery.
