MPHA defeat Haryana in Sub-Junior Girls National Championship

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh): Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA) defeated Haryana 2-1 to lift the Sub-Junior Girls National Championship title on Tuesday.

MPHA, who led 2-0 at half time, scored through Nusrat Khatun (6th Min) and Karishma Yadav (21st Min Penalty Corner) while Mamta reduced the margin for Haryana (65th Min).

Madhya Pradesh was dominant for most of the match and earned seven penalty corners as against three by their opponents.

Goalkeeper Preeti Patel was declared Player of the Match as she warded off numerous attacks by the Haryana forwards to ensure victory for her team.

MPHA had also won the Junior Women National Championship crown in Sonepat earlier this month.

Orissa finished third as they beat Karnataka 3-1.

Karnataka took the lead from a 30th minute penalty corner conversion by Sandhya H.P. but Orissa bounced back with goals from Birajini Ekka in the 33rd minute, Priyanka Ekka in the 52nd minute and Seema Lakra in the 59th minute.

Navneet Kaur (Haryana) was declared Player of the Tournament while awards for the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forwards went to Sandhya K.K. (Karnataka), Jyoti Dahiya (Haryana), Shyama Tidgam (MPHA) and Birajini Ekka (Orissa), respectively. The Fair Play Trophy was given to Tamil Nadu.
