After Kerala, Gujarat and Assam, it is now Chhattisgarh's turn to pitch for its tourism sector with a high-visibility campaign. The Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, will be unleashing a new television campaign 'Full of Surprises' that will go live on screens in the next 10-15 days. The Rs 7-crore, 360-degree campaign, which commenced in October with print ads, is focused on high net worth individuals, according to a report by The Hindu Business Line.
Internationally, the state tourism board found that a large proportion of German and British tourists visit India for its wildlife and for historical research. "Based on that research, we focused on the theme and also on these two countries," Sharma said.
"We have placed the media in in-flight magazines, business newspapers, online booking sites, women's magazines, travel magazines and coffee retail chains," added Sharma, describing the target-group focus. This year, there have been one lakh visitors to the state's Bastar area alone, he informed.
According to Sharma, there is adequate hotel room capacity. Three new properties are coming up in Sirpur, a Buddhist tourist destination "expected to be four times bigger than Nalanda", and the hill station of Surguja, he said. If demand picks up due to the campaign, then, like Gujarat, we will invite private investors into the sector to build room capacity, he added.
