Kolkata: Over 500 people from various walks of life, including doctors, sports administrators, footballers, cancer patients and members of youth clubs, took part in a five-km procession on Monday for spreading awareness about cancer.
Around 100 cancer patients were part of the procession which started from Hrishikesh Park in north Kolkata and snaked its way through various localities, before ending at the same spot.
Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Biswarup Dey and footballer Dipak Mondal were part of the colourful rally that included tableaux, banners and pictures asking people to stay away from smoking and detailing the causes of cancer and how to prevent the disease.
Dilip Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha inaugurated the procession organised by the non-governmental organisation Fight Cancer.
