Kolkata: Have no mercy and take no prisoners. If that was East Bengal's unwritten agenda against Pune FC, especially with the clash against Mohun Bagan round the corner, Trevor Morgan's boys responded spectacularly, humbling the visitors 3-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday and extending their winning run to three matches.
Three booming strikes from Nirmal Chhetri, Tolgay Ozbey and Alan Gow provided the perfect blend of style and substance to the victory for the home side, which are now on 10 points from five matches. Lester Fernandez briefly brought Pune FC on level terms in the first half, but there was little doubt that had more appetite and ambition to control proceedings.
East Bengal's victory, however, came at a price when key striker Tolgay was booked for simulation, thus ruling him out of the clash with Mohun Bagan with a double yellow.
