Hyderabad: Hardly troubled at the Japan Open Super Series, India's Saina Nehwal waltzed into the semifinals when she made short work of Singapore's Juan Gu 21-17, 21-13 on Friday. It was her best-ever show at the Tokyo meet.
In what could be even more heart-warming for the Indian was the stunning exit of Asian Games and All England champion Shixian Wang. The Chinese world No. 2's 15-21, 19-21 loss against Juliane Schenk of Germany should more or less ensure the smooth progress of Saina to the final.
"I knew it won't be tough but I am very cautious. I played well and I am very happy that I reached the semifinal of a big tournament after quite some time," said Saina, who improved her record against Gu to 2-0.
