India's performance in the just concluded Test Series in England has been a serious debacle. This particular performance by Indian Team rank as one of the worst in England, after the 5-0 whitewash in 1959 which include three innings defeats and other by 171 runs and eight wickets.
For a number one team to play is such a dismal way and slip straight to the third spot in the ICC Test ranking is certainly a humiliating statistics to take home. In the hind side lots of arguments can be put forth, one of the primary argument being - had Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan been fully fit and available for the entire series, it might have made a difference.
But Gautam Gambhir was unimpressive; and there's a gaping hole at number six, not to mention the limitations of MS Dhoni as wicket-keeper-batsman.
As for the bowling, Praveen Kumar's unavailability in the fourth Test was unfortunate. At the same time, Ishant Sharma's ankle injury is unsurprising, considering the workload of seven Test matches in two months imposed on him. But where's the quality spinner?
