Ranchi: Baijnath Ram, Jharkhand Human Resources Development (HERD), on Monday declared that all girl students studying in Class 8 would be provided free bicycles. This is an initiative which has already been undertaken by Bihar government, and now taking the cue, Jharkhand government has decided to practise the same. The minister commented that, "In the current financial year, 35,000 girl students of standard eight of general category will be provided free bicycles,".
The Jharkhand government is already providing free bicycles to students of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (SC), and backward communities. Now with the inception of the recent plan, girl students of the general category will also get free bicycles.
The move is aimed to improve and advance the woman literacy rate in the state. At present the female literacy rate in Jharkhand is around 50 percent, and there is lot desired to be done. The HRD minister also announced recently to open secondary and higher secondary school at distance of 5 km and 7 km respectively. This indeed will be helpful for all the students.
