Mangalore: The State government has recognised the Department of Applied Botany, Mangalore University, as a centre of excellence.
It has been recognised for conservation and bio-prospecting of endemic, rare, endangered, and threatened plant species of Western Ghats.
However the government had sanctioned Rs. 60 lakh to the department for the purpose. About Rs. 20 lakh had been released, he told presspersons at the university on Wednesday. The grant should be utilised for the purpose in the next three years.
