"The Boy With a Suitcase", which opened in Bengaluru to packed houses at the Ranga Shankara last week, was a performance with very high production qualities.
The production is Indo-German, Ranga Shankara collaborating with Schnawwl, with both Indian and German actors.
However, the story by Mike Kenny is about a 12-year-old who is sent away from his war-torn home to his sister who lives in London, "the land of milk and honey". This journey comes as a surprise and shock to the little boy Naz, who realises after the bus had turned around the corner, that he is undertaking the long journey from one corner of the world to the other, all alone.
It opens to a whole lot of European languages, Kannada, and English; the music has many flavours and textures, even as the narrative itself moves through many lands.
