Berhampur: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved two new departments at the MKCG Medical College for the year 2011-12.
The new departments permitted by the MCI are Emergency Medicine and Transfusion Medicine. The government has also sanctioned five posts in each new department, including a professor, two associate professors, and one assistant professor, principal of the medical college Sonamali Bag said here on Saturday.
However the renewal of seats in MBBS course from 107 to 150 at the medical college was announced on Friday. Other government-run medical colleges - SCB Medical College, Cuttack and VSS Medical College, Burla have also been allowed to increase the number of seats in MBBS from 107 to 150 for the current year.
