 Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government approved a new hydel power generation policy for the state provides for return of all power projects to the state after 35 years.
The state has also encouraged local independent power producers to set up small projects up to 10 mega watts.
"The new hydel power generation policy was approved by the cabinet today and it provides for return of power projects to the state after 35 years of concession period," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told.
Omar said the policy applies for power projects with a generation capacity of 2 megawatts to 25 megawatts.
However giving the silent features of the new policy, he said the state government will get 16 per cent free electricity from these projects including one per cent for local area development.
