Shimla: Students in Himachal Pradesh travelling more than 5 km from their home to school daily are entitled to get a scholarship.
However the aim of the scholarship is to check drop out rate in schools, particularly those that are located in far-off areas.
The cabinet had approved the "Protsahan Chhatravriti Yojna" (Student Scholarship Promotion Scheme) for all categories of students travelling a distance of over 5 km daily to attend government schools from their permanent residence.
Himachal Pradesh has over 15,000 primary and higher secondary government schools with a strength of around 10 lakh students.
