Patna: The railways start issuing e-tickets nationwide on its own portal from next month to cater to the needs of passengers across the country.
The new system was partially launched in the eastern region on Thursday by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. This portal is likely to reduce pressure on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) site.
However according to a Railway Board official, railways has decided to make this site available to individual users only. Travel agents and commercial organizations are not supposed to use this portal. They are to access the IRCTC site for booking e-tickets as has been the practice now, he said.
