Canacona: Ramakant Naik Gaonkar from Canacona's Kindlebhag ward was elected unopposed as the chairperson of the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Tuesday.
The returning officer and deputy collector, Shiv Kumar, announced Gaonkar's victory in the presence of ten councillors from various wards, CMC chief officer and prominent Canacona locals.
Gaonkar told that he would occupy the post for 14 months, after which by Palolem ward councillor Simon would occupy it for 18 months and the remainder of the term, 22 months, would be completed by Chaudi ward councillor Hemant Gracias.
