Ludhiana: The 35th national arm wrestling championship concluded at Nehru Sidhant Kendra on Sunday evening. On the third day of the event, players from different states participated in the competitions with full zeal. Contestants from Manipur, Mizoram and Kerala performed very well, while those from Punjab gave a tough competition to players from other states. On the final day of the event, officials from Indian arm wrestling federation and Punjab state arm wrestling federation witnessed the closing ceremony of the championship. Lakhbir Singh Lakha, general secretary of Punjab state arm wrestling association, said the event was marvellous and there was enthusiastic participation from players hailing from different corners of the country who came forward to participate in the event.
In the men's category, the champion of champions title was won by Rajinder Kumar Mehndi of Punjab. Vashid Hussain of Punjab won the title of champion of champions among boys.
S Aruna of Manipur won the champion of champions title among girls and L Pushparani Devi from the same state won the same title among women. Among masters, Sharat Singh of Manipur won the title of champion of champions. Among the specially abled, Chandan Kumar Behra won the same title. The overall men's team trophy went to Kerala while Punjab were the runners-up. Manipur won the women's trophy with Mizoram being the runners-up.
