Ajmer: The state government is going to provide free medicines at government hospitals and dispensaries to patients from all sections of the society.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, while interacting with media representatives in Ajmer on Wednesday, said the programme will be launched on Gandhi Jayanti this year. "Irrespective of which section of society a patient belongs to, he would be provided free medicines from October 2 this year. Medical centres in urban areas too will be a part of the programme,'' Gehlot said, adding that the details of the project are being worked out.
The chief minister said that generic medicines will also be provided at the government medical centres.
Gehlot had first made the announcement in this year's budget speech.
The state government is already providing free of cost medicinal facilities to BPL families under the Chief Minister's BPL Life Saving Fund. The fund does not have any upper limit for expenditure on treatment. The state has over 36 lakh BPL families.
