Jaipur: After the proposal for non-stop double decker trains between Delhi and Jaipur, it's now time for the roadways to take commuters zipping down the Capital.
The Ministry of surface transport has conceived plans of an express way that promises to bring down the travelling time between the two cities to two and a half hours.
The 277 km-road would be on the lines of the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The Mumbai-Pune expressway has two carriageways with three concrete lanes each separated by a central divider and a tarmac or concrete shoulder on either side. Vehicles below four-wheelers and agricultural tractors are not permitted to ply on it.
Currently, the Jaipur-Delhi highway is six laned, and it takes nearly five hours for commuters to cover the distance. However, with increasing traffic, the need for an expressway was felt.
