Daltongonj: The state government has agreed in principle to set up a medical college in Palamu. According to local MLA Videsh Singh, the college will come up in the district but the location is yet to be decided.
Sources in the district administration said much depends on the availability of land for the hospital. At present, the century-old Sadar hospital which has 120 beds will be used for internship. Over 1,000 patients visit the outpatient department everyday.
Deputy commissioner Pooja Singhal said land was scarce in Palamu. Search is on for land to be given to Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) and Navodaya Vidyalaya.
Interestingly, both the educational institutions Navodaya Vidyalaya and NPU are eyeing the same plot of land located at Pokhraha khurd. The plot is of 55 acres. Navodaya Vidyalaya is the oldest claimant for this plot of land for over five years, while NPU started staking claim to it only this January 2011.
