Kanpur: The Ganga Mela was celebrated on Thursday. It is observed every year on the day of Anuradha Nakshtra, three to seven days after the Holi. However the Mela is one such occasion where people of all ages and from all walks of life enjoy throwing colours on each other. It marks the end of the week-long festival of colours.
Hundreds of youth stepped out on roads to paint the city in different colours. In the form of a procession, people walked out of their houses from the old localities of the city like Birhana Road, Nayaganj, Maniram Bagia, Hatia and others. The revellers threw colours on each other and painted every person red, green and yellow.
Ganga Mela is celebrated every year in the memory of revolutionaries who were released by British government after being made captive during 1857 revolution.
