Mysore: Panchamaha rathotsava witnessed thousands of people at the temple town to partake at the annual car festival.
It was attended by some one lakh devotees from afar, which commenced at 5.30 am in Kumbha Lagna. Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta launched the dodda jatra by pulling the chariot after offering special poojas at Srikanteshwara temple.
The devotees pulled the five chariots on which five deities -- Ganapathi, Najundeshwara, Parvathi, Subramanya and Chandikeshwara -- were placed. The Gauthama ratha measuring 78 feet in height, which carried the presiding deity Nanjundeshwara, led the car festival. The ratha travelled for 2 km before it culminated at the ancient temple.
