Panchkula: Panchkula is set to have greater traffic congestion. Last year total 12,000 vehicles were registered, in last two months over 4,000 vehicles have already been registered.
According to officials 70 new vehicles are being registered daily. In 2009, 10,000 vehicles were registered.
However the liking for new vehicles which is going to add more chaos on the roads has left any residents worried. Traffic woes in Panchkula are no longer confined to the Housing Board Chowk as growing vehicular density is leading to frequent bottlenecks on city roads.
With so many new vehicles being registered, authorities were forced to come up with a new number series in November, two months before the usual time. Even the hike in registration fee is not stopping new buyers.
The road tax rate in Panchkula is the highest in the Tricity. Owners have to pay 8% of a new car's value to meet that expense.
