Heavy snowfall makes Tawang tourists stranded

Itanagar: Tawang is receiving Heavy snowfall since Tuesday resulting life to a standstill. Tawang sharing the border with China is a famous tourist place.

Several tourists are choked due to snow at Tawang and Dirang in West Kameng district after roads at Jung and Sella Pass, situated at an altitude of 14,000 feet. Snowfall was also recorded in the Bomdila-Tawang road stretch.

Although, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), has already pressed its men into service, it would take at least two days to clear the snow and to make the roads accessible. Power supply was also cut off and water supply became irregular in the Buddhist town since Tuesday after all the water pipes were jammed due to snow. Mechuka in West Siang district is also under a thick blanket of snow for the last few days.

The headquarters of Dibang Valley district Anini, has the same fate receiving heavy snowfall since the last week. Mayudia, situated 2,500 meters above the sea level, experiences heavy snowfall from December to February every year. The twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun are also witnessing a cold wave coupled with a drizzle.
