Patiala: Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) opened their campaign against the underdogs Jammu & Kashmir on a triumphant note scoring a resounding victory here today at Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium.
J & K won the toss and opted to field first. Delhi openers Shikhar Dhawan and Unmukt Chand gave a solid start to their team, stitching a partnership of 80 runs. Southpaw Shikhar Dhawan scored a fluent 65 in 72 balls, which was embellished with nine boundaries.
For J&K, pacer Abid Nabi and Raman Dutta captured two wickets each, giving away 66 and 50 runs respectively. Manik Gupta took 1 for 50, Pervez Rasool, 1 for 28 and Ram Dayal 1 for 53.
In reply, J&K were bowled out for 215 in 48.5 overs. Pervez Rasool was the only J&K batsman who withstood the fiery Delhi pace attack which had the likes of World Cup discard Ishant Sharma, scoring a fluent 70, which contained eight fours.
For Delhi, Ishant Sharma bowled with a lot of fire, bagging four wickets and giving away 25 runs. But when he was in his seventh over, he developed some sort of sprain in his foot and left the ground after bowling three balls. This is bad news for Delhi as it has to play a couple of matches on February 16 and 18 in Patiala. Narnaul took 2 for 52 and Pradeep Sangwan got 1 for 47.
Delhi won the match by 81 runs. J&K will have to toil hard in the matches ahead to remain in contention if today's match is any indication.
