Rohtak: Following the brilliant showing by its seamers, Haryana batsmen were looking to overhaul Karnataka's first innings total of 222 runs in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal cricket stadium on November 18.
Joginder Sharma and Sanjay Badhwar captured five wickets each, while Nitin Saini (57 batting, 164b, 209m, 2x4) and Sunny Singh (53, 86b, 105m, 5x4) put up gritty performances in the home team's quest for the first innings lead.
At stumps on day two, the host was 146 for three with Saini and Badani (25) sharing an unbeaten 48-run partnership.
Both Joginder and Badhwar made the best use of the morning conditions. Joginder added two more wickets to his kitty to achieve his 15th five-wicket haul in first class cricket.
Skipper Vinay Kumar (50, 69b, 102m, 6x4, 2x6) emerged as the top scorer for the visiting side. Karnataka also benefited from the dropped catch of Manish Pandey when he was on six. Haryana batsmen had their task cut out and they succeeded in staying put at the crease.
Saini played the sheet-anchor's role well, while Sunny curtailed his big shots to reach his half-century.
