 Raipur: The country's oldest tigress died of old age-related illness at a zoo on November 18. The feline Shankari had been ill for the past few days. She died of old age-related ailments at the Nandanvan zoo in the afternoon.
Shankari, who would have turned 23 on January 14 next year, was the oldest living big cat after being born in a forest. According to the forest official, the oldest tiger in the country is aged 23 years but it was born in a zoo.
Generally, tigers born in forests do not live for more than 17-18 years. However, Shankari lived for nearly 23 years, and can be considered the oldest big cat born in a forest.
