Creating the world's longest embroidered sari of 55 meters, fashion designer, Suneet Verma has created a place for himself in the "Limca Book of Records". The designer, inspired from the mythological incident of Draupadi's 'chirharan', has termed his creation as a 'sweet surprise'.

This creation is a result of the efforts of a team of eight designers and over 55 artisans, who manufactured this 45 inch wide sari in 10 weeks. The Delhi-based designer considers saris as his forte and he looks those up as a canvas where he can do things of his interest.

The sari, which is priced at Rs 885,000, took 26,400 hours to complete. It has been especially created for Vogue's Fashion Night Out, which is a shopping extravaganza to be organized on September 10.

Mr. Verma was not of a view to set a record while designing this sari, he informed. Apart from Draupadi's Chirharan, he had also taken inspiration from contemporary India, wedding ceremonies, the religious iconography of the gods and goddesses, forests with palm trees and the birds and animals to design such an innovative product.

Silk-georgette dyed into many colours such as yellow, orange, fushia pink, lime green, red and cobalt blue was used in the sari with running patch work , silk brocade and satin printed three-inch border all around.
