Raipur : Five persons have died and as many were missing in flood-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, officials said on Sep 8. Heavy rains in the past three days have caused large-scale flooding in the region.
The deaths due to drowning in overflowing rivers and water bodies have been reported from Kanker, Narayanpur and Rajnandgaon districts, they said. Narayanpur Collector L S Keni said 80 houses were completely destroyed, while 150 suffered partial damage in the district.
Nearly 520 people have been shifted to relief camps in Narayanpur district, he said. Kanker district officials said flood has caused extensive damage and snapped road links at several places.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Amar Agarwal said Collectors of the affected districts have been asked to immediately launch relief and rescue operations.
