Vadodara : Mumbai-based Urja Investment Pte Ltd (UIPL) as part of its retail operations expansion has decided to start 10 branches in Gujarat by March 2011.

The share brokerage firm, which is part of Urja group of companies that has major investments in Gujarat, is presently operating from five cities, including Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Vadodara, where it opened its regional office recently, while it plans to open 10 branches in Gujarat, including cities like Bhavnagar, Surat, Nadiad, Anand, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Vapi and Mehsana apart from semi-urban towns like Unjha and Gondal, which is a hub of commodity market.

"The target is to roll out a minimum of 10 branches and 100 plus associates, while we are also targeting to increase our customer base four fold to take it up to 10,000 from present 2,500," UIPL's managing director Ashish Doshi told reporters on Monday. "Vadodara will act as a regional hub to support our retail operations for both direct clients as well through business partners across Gujarat," Doshi added.

The firm has also given a presentation to state government-run Gujarat Knowledge Society (GKS) to introduce financial literacy course across the state on the lines of vocational education in English. "It is being considered favourably," Doshi said.
