SpiceJet expands operations in South India by adding Madurai
 

Mumbai : SpiceJet has added Madurai as the 20th destination, thereby increasing its presence in the Southern region. The first flights between Madurai and Chennai will begin on September 27, 2010 connecting onwards to Delhi and Mumbai. Bookings from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai to/from Madurai are now open.

Announcing this development, Samyukth Sridharan, Chief Commercial Officer, SpiceJet Limited said, "As we grow our fleet and induct the 22nd aircraft, we increase our presence in South. Madurai is among the top three industrial towns of Tamil Nadu. It is the only airport in India serving six Lok Sabha constituencies. Also, known as the cultural capital to Tamil Nadu and host to the famous Meenakshi Temple, we are happy to announce Madurai as our 20th destination."

SpiceJet reported its first annual profit at the end of FY 2009-10 with a net annual profit of Rs 61.4 crore. For Quarter One of FY10-11, the airline has continued to be profitable and reported a profit of Rs 55.2 crore. SpiceJet has also announced an order of 30 Boeing 737-800 aircraft to take its fleet size to 58 planes over the next few years.
