New Delhi : India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is hopeful of completing the furnishing of their hotels in Delhi by August 31, 2010. According to Dr Lalit K Panwar, Chairman and Managing Director, ITDC, the remaining work at Hotel Samrat New Delhi will be completed by August 31, 2010.
He informed that all the 680 rooms spread across three city hotels - The Ashok (480), Hotel Janpath (100) and The Samrat (100) will be used as accommodation for the Games Committee's guests. "Hotel Janpath will be the media hotel," said Panwar.
When asked about the progress in terms of furnishing the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats into guest accommodation, Panwar said that instead of the expected 5,000 rooms, ITDC expects only 2,000 rooms to be ready before the Commonwealth Games 2010. As reported earlier, the delay on the part of DDA in handing over the flats to ITDC for furnishing has had an adverse impact on the project.
As far as Games Village flats are concerned, Panwar said that ITDC has completed almost 80 per cent of the contracted work of putting furniture and remaining 20 per cent will be completed by the month-end.
