New Delhi : In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, KV Thomas, minister of state for agriculture, said that exports of coconuts from India continued to rise and totalled 24,878 tonnes worth Rs 549 million in 2009-10.
"This included 12,709 tonnes of fresh coconuts, 2,727 tonnes of dried coconuts, 1,569 tonnes of desiccated coconuts and 7,871 tonnes of other coconuts," he informed the House.
Responding to a question from MP N Balaganga, the minister said the government had noticed a steady increase in coconut exports to various countries.
"The Coconut Development Board has been notified as the Export Promotion Council for all coconut products other than those made from coconut husk and fibre," he added.
