Hyderabad : Junior doctors at Gandhi Hospital called off their strike on Sep 5 after the state health authorities gave a written assurance that appropriate steps will be taken to remove the mess contractor at the earliest. The 300-odd striking medicos, who had been demanding the removal of the mess contractor for serving poor quality food to patients and doctors since four days, resumed their duties in the afternoon.
In a meeting on Sunday, director medical education Dr T Ravi Raju said that the mess contract will be terminated soon and fresh tenders will be called for. The authorities said that complaints from all the stakeholders including patients and medicos will be taken into consideration. The authorities also agreed to install mineral water plant on the hospital premises for patients and doctors and assurance was also given to improve the parking amenities at the hospital.
The medicos who had been continuing their agitation till the talks got over on Sunday, said that they have called off the strike tentatively. "We have temporarily called off the strike. If they do not abide by the written agreement, we will go on an agitation anytime," said Dr Mohammed Imran, president, AP Government Junior Doctors Association, Gandhi wing.
