DJ Akbar Sami presents yet another jalwa

The whole of August, the city of Mumbai has been rocking every weekend with 'Bombay Times Colour Nights'.

The super-combo of the country's top DJs and elite nightclubs has certainly upped the party quotient and the last week promises to be the same, or maybe even bigger and better!

It's DJ Akbar Sami behind the console on Aug 27 at Bling, and those who've attended his shows can vouch that the night will be a swinging one! One of the first DJs to introduce the profession in the country in the mid eighties, Akbar shot to fame with his first remix album Jalwa and since then, there's been no looking back for this talented man. And he's proud of his struggle. "When I started out, there was no media doing coverage or channels playing music. It was difficult to survive and even more difficult to explain my profession to others. But God has been kind. I am where I am because of that struggle," he says. And today, he's a happy and content man. "It gives me great pleasure to see people joining in this profession. Lot of DJs are doing well these days," he adds.

Although he's played in a number of countries over the years, not many people are aware that Akbar has been playing in the US on August 15 every year for the past seven years. "I always start the show with Vande Mataram," he says with a hint of pride in his voice. Naturally, it is a big honour to represent one's country on an international platform.

But for now, it's something else that's giving him a high. "I've been part of 'Bombay Times Colour Nights' for the past four years and I think it's a brilliant concept. We should have it more often in the year!" says Akbar, who will be upping the tempo at Bling this weekend. So what's he got in store for the young couples on that night? "There won't be any one kind of music. It will be a blend of different tunes and different genres of music. It will be progressive music, with lots of instruments and melodies," he adds.
