 Yashovardhan Birla Group owned textile yarn major; Birla Cotsyn Ltd is mulling an entry in to finished fabrics, with the intention to step in to the garment manufacturing sector and also the last destination in the textile value-chain; apparel retailing.
Birla Cotsyn is planning to set up vertically integrated textile facilities like cotton ginning, yarn manufacturing, weaving, and fabric processing and garment production at a capital investment of Rs 3.0-3.5 billion.
Birla Cotsyn operates three manufacturing plants units in two locations. The unit at Khamgaon has a capacity of 300 tons per annum and produces synthetic yarns. The cotton yarn unit at Malkapur has a capacity of 330 tons per year.
The yarn producer which is targeting revenues of Rs four billion in the current fiscal has plans to increase the total annual yarn production capacity from the present 1,000 to 1,200 tons, which includes cotton as well as synthetic yarns.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Debashish Poddar, CEO, Birla Cotsyn, divulged, "We are planning to come into finished fabrics in a big way and necessary steps are being taken. We also plan to expand our spinning capacity by 36,000 spindles".
He added by saying, "We are also planning an entry into the retail business and have plans to set up about 100 stores in the next two years with men`s premium range of apparels, which will all fructify in fiscal 2011-12".
