Auto industry is moving towards green and mass mobility vehicles

New Delhi : The Indian automobile industry will move towards greener and mass mobility vehicles, global consulting and advisory firm KPMG said on Aug 25. KPMG in a report said those companies, which prepare for the growing importance of green technologies and the twin needs of private light transport and mass transport schemes, will benefit the most.

The study, Indian Automotive Industry: Evolving Dynamics found out that the industry will face two potentially game-changing trends like move towards greener, gas-based public transport vehicles, and greater requirement for urban mass mobility.

"Companies would benefit by gearing themselves for some of the emerging trends in green revolution and alternative mobility solutions," said Yezdi Nagporewalla, national automotive head, KPMG.

The study conducted through interviews with senior executives from Indian and global automotive companies on the three emerging themes facing the industry- growth and consolidation, green revolution and mobility revolution.

It said that the globally evolving phenomena such as the rise of greener, hybrid vehicles are yet to take off in India. The industry, it said, seems to be evaluating the dual fuel and hybrid for the greener vehicle segment.

The report highlights an evolving trend like mass mobility revolution. It says that currently there is a lack of clarity in the industry over the role it will play in any mobility revolution.

"One hopes that the opportunities offered by emerging alternative transportation solutions like Metros, fleet taxis, rural mobility, are closely monitored by industry players to identify opportunities and risks," the report said.
