Advocates demand transfer of family court judge, observe strike

Vadodara : Advocates in the city went on a flash strike on Aug 30 to protest against alleged misbehaviour of a principal judge in family court. The advocates, who were up in arms against principal judge A S Saiyyad, said they won't turn up for hearing of cases in his court. Baroda Bar Association (BBA) in charge president Ranjitsinh Rathod said Saiyyad used to behave rashly with advocates during hearings.

"We had earlier requested Saiyyad to behave properly with the advocates and litigants. We are against such misbehaviour by judicial authority," Rathod said.

The advocates also shouted slogans against the judge and demanded that he should be transferred. "No advocate will attend hearings in the family court till Saiyyad is transferred. If advocates are expected to follow the law and respect the court's sanctity, so must the judges," Rathod added.

This is second time that the advocates have gone on strike in last one month. The lawyers had gone on flash strike last month to protest against special treatment being meted out to an accused who is son of a former cop by police officials. The accused was arrested by the cops on charges of threatening a female lawyer and was allegedly brought to the court in a luxury car.
