Chennai : In a bid keep the environment clean, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed that all autorickshaws in the state, running on petrol, will now use Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
At a function here, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi presented ten of the 8000 autorickshaw permits to beneficiaries on Aug 12, a state government release here said.
These vehicles will run on LNG and the state government was taking steps to make all autorickshaws running on petrol LNG-complaint, while placing importance on environment. The conversion will be done in a phased manner.
Chennai alone had 29 LNG refilling stations. As many as 3100 persons in Chennai and 4900 elsewhere in the state were issued permits today, the release said.
