Sony Ericsson has revealed that its mid-range Android phone, the X8, would be launched in India by September end.
The X8, positioned between the high-end Xperia X10 and the lower mid-range Mini and Mini PRO handsets, comes loaded with Android 1.6 (sigh!). The X8 comes with a 3-inch display and gets a decent 3.2MP camera at the rear. The phone will use the same four corner UI seen on the X10 Mini. Now for some good news! The phone would be updated to Android 2.1 by the end of next month confirmed Sony Ericsson. Expect the X8 to be priced at around 16,000 when launched.
Sony Ericsson's India marketing head told us that almost all of existing Android based phones from the Sony Ericsson portfolio would be updated to Android 2.1 in Q3, 2010. He also added that the update to Android 2.1 would enable 720p video recording support on the Xperia 10. DLNA support too would be added. Sony Ericsson also announced a few more handsets including the Yendo, Aspen and the Cedar; you might want to read more about these handsets here.
