Rohit Bal is chosen as finale designer for India Men's Week

Rohit Bal will close the Van Heusen India Men's Week as the grand finale designer. Rohit Bal says he deserves an award for being the grand finale designer for almost all the fashion weeks the country has witnessed. We agree. Frankly, no other designer can close a show with the kind of mammoth bang that Bal has become synonymous with.

In 2010, he has done it again with the forthcoming Van Heusen India Men's Week in Delhi - he has bagged the grand finale slot. India loves Gudda, and his drama.

But the designer now, is a tad careful about the kind of drama he wants to show. "I'm aware people expect drama from me. We are creating it only with clothes because it's all about the clothes eventually," he reasons. He's feeling naughty these days. Hence, a seasonless collection titled 'Shararat' this time. "Boys will be boys. You need to show a certain kind of raunchy energy and naughtiness bordering on being wicked in a men's show. Men at a certain age are like vain peacocks. If you make them look sexy, they perform brilliantly. The naughty spirit keeps the energy high. Men's fashion shows should have an element of intent and sensuality, but not through revealing and vulgar clothes. It's about making them look like dudes," shares Bal.

The collection will have its quiet moments too. "Colours are few - crÅ me and black being two of them. It'll be a blend of ethnic and western wear in organic fabrics. My inspiration this time is multi latitudinal," he says. Every Rohit Bal show has elements that people remember. "It's always whimsical, impulsive and last moment for me. I don't plan anything," he says.

He lauds Van Heusen for providing such a brilliant platform for men's designers like him. "It makes things very convenient as you have the infrastructure in place. You need courage to do a men's week in a conservative country like India. I see it becoming a bi-annual event," he maintains.
